Where it all began
Forty years ago this May, Lee Gravely took her two daughters, Frances and Susan, on a trip to Italy. That trip changed their lives, and the backdrop for and reason behind that transformation was Positano.
“I remember my first time driving through the hills from Naples toward Positano with Momma and Frances, and the breathtaking clearing in the trees as we approached a small winding road overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. We all agreed we must have died and gone to heaven because we had never seen anything so beautiful.”
- Susan Gravely
The three women were captivated by the cheerful, handpainted designs they saw on the dinnerware at Il San Pietro Hotel. After a few days exploring Positano’s ceramic workshops and factories, they knew that the area’s artistry and craftsmanship was unlike anything they had ever seen elsewhere. They quickly decided they wanted to sell that unique, joyful dinnerware in America, and the rest, as they say, is history.
Campagna
VIETRI’s flagship dinnerware collection, Campagna, has brought irresistibly Italian style to tables and lives for forty years. With handpainted animals, a varied and cheerful color palette, and a gently ruffled shape, the collection is still Founder Susan Gravely’s favorite after all these years.
“We made sure that whatever was pulled from the cupboard created a feeling of joy. Campagna: It is still my favorite pattern.”
- Susan Gravely
