THE MAGIC OF CAPRI
Oh, Capri, pronounced CA-pri. We Americans remember The Isle of Capri - beautiful, but often mispronounced.
Taking a boat from Positano to Capri for the day is something special. Try to go off season and during the week to avoid the huge crowds. It is a tiny place and bustling with tourists. You arrive at the Marina Grande which is charming with an assortment of colorful houses and a breathtaking landscape. It reminds me a bit of Burano in Venice.
"From there you can take a funicular to the small town of Capri or take a bus to Anacapri."
In Capri, the main piazza is called Umberto Piazza, or La Piazzetta. From there, you walk the narrow streets and enjoy! There are lots of wonderful things to see, smell, taste, and feel - but also wonderful clothes to buy and perfume - the Carthusia perfume! And gelato at Gelateria Buonocore. Not to be missed.
You can either rent a car or take a taxi - both of which are colorful topless cars. It is so fun to see the island from a taxi as you're winding along the narrow pathways. Try to go see Villa Lysis with its enormous grounds and beautiful gardens. If you love blue grottos, then a boat tour is a must.
Above all, do not miss Anacapri, a lovely village with churches and more shops!
One of my favorite hotels is the Villa San Michele in Anacapri, a famous Swedish home in the late 19th century, and the gorgeous view of the Bay of Naples and Marina Grande.
