Ceramic Items:

Dishwasher safe - We recommend using a non-citrus, non-abrasive detergent on the air dry cycle and not overloading the dishwasher. Hand washing is recommended for oversized items.

Microwave safe - The temperature of handmade, natural clay items may vary after microwave use. We recommend allowing items to cool before taking them out of the microwave or using an oven mitt.

Oven safe - VIETRI's casserole and baking dishes can be used in most conventional ovens and dishwashers. They are handmade of very dense clays and fired at extremely high temperatures, making them heat resistant to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. It is important that all terra cotta baking pieces be cured. Italian stoneware collections do not require curing. To cure servers, fully submerge and soak in water for 15 minutes prior to each use. This soaking prepares the dish, reduces cooking time, and prevents the food from sticking. As the Italians do, place baking dishes in a room-temperature oven and then bring the oven to cooking temperature. The handles of these pieces are decorative and should not be used for support. Do not use casserole lids in the oven.

Freezer safe - Items can withstand freezing temperatures, but please allow them to return to room temperature before putting them into the oven.

Flatware Items: VIETRI flatware is made of the highest quality 18/10 stainless steel. Stainless steel is not stain proof. Ingredients found in tea, coffee, salad dressing, vinegar, and salt can cause discoloration. Pitting or spotting is usually caused by hard water or salty foods. Our flatware is dishwasher safe unless otherwise noted. We recommend using the low energy/dry cycle with the handles placed up in the basket. Use a lemon-free, mild, and non-abrasive detergent that does not contain chlorine, alcohol, or perfume. Overly hot dishwashers may tarnish the necks of flatware. Dry flatware with a soft towel immediately after washing to prevent mineral or stain buildup and streaking. Do not leave acrylic handled flatware in the sun for a long period of time.

Italian Stoneware - VIETRI uses stoneware clay that is indigenous to Italy. Stoneware clay is less porous and fired at higher temperatures to make it oven, microwave, freezer and dishwasher safe, and highly resistant to chipping and breaking.

Acrylic Handles - Slabs of raw Italian material are first cut into long strips, and artisans shave the material to obtain smoothness and shine. The strips are then cut and carved into the handle's shape. Next, the handles are sanded and the pieces are rolled in a mixing machine with pumice, plaster, and water to create a shined handle. Afterwards, the handles are polished by rolling in a tumbler with small beads for 24 hours before they are then assembled.

VIETRI flatware is made of 18/10 stainless steel, the highest quality alloy available with 18% chrome for maximum corrosion resistance and 10% nickel for a silver-like luster.

A region in central Italy, Tuscany is known for its landscapes, history, craftsmanship, and influence on culture. The birthplace of the Renaissance, Tuscany is often called the art palace of Italy, and many of the world's greatest works of art come from the region. Ceramics have a long legacy in the area and maintain their place of importance in the region today.

Lombardy is one of the northernmost regions of Italy. Home to Milan and one of the most prosperous areas of the country, it is known for being on the cutting edge of design. Its history can be traced back to the 2nd millennium BC, and ceramic artifacts from this time exist today.
