Beloved for its sophisticated simplicity, versatility, and durability, Lastra is our bestselling collection. The Lastra Four-Piece Place Setting is wonderful starter kit for a Lastra collection, and it includes a European Dinner Plate, Salad Plate, Pasta Bowl, and Cereal Bowl. Lastra’s design was inspired by the circular wooden slabs used for centuries to create the outer mold in cheesemaking throughout Italy. When fashioned together with twine, the hoop was left with a slight overlap to help maintain the shape of the cheese mold. Maestro molder Stefano Roselli incorporates the overlapping detail into the entire design, from its foot to its rim. A dark dusting on the edges of each piece suggests the ash that was used to preserve these cheeses and highlights each unique silhouette. Product Dimensions: 6"-10.5"D

Dishwasher safe - We recommend using a non-citrus, non-abrasive detergent on the air dry cycle and not overloading the dishwasher. Hand washing is recommended for oversized items.

Microwave safe - The temperature of handmade, natural clay items may vary after microwave use. We recommend allowing items to cool before taking them out of the microwave or using an oven mitt.

Oven safe - VIETRI's casserole and baking dishes can be used in most conventional ovens and dishwashers. They are handmade of very dense clays and fired at extremely high temperatures, making them heat resistant to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. It is important that all terra cotta baking pieces be cured. Italian stoneware collections do not require curing. To cure servers, fully submerge and soak in water for 15 minutes prior to each use. This soaking prepares the dish, reduces cooking time, and prevents the food from sticking. As the Italians do, place baking dishes in a room-temperature oven and then bring the oven to cooking temperature. The handles of these pieces are decorative and should not be used for support. Do not use casserole lids in the oven.

Freezer safe - Items can withstand freezing temperatures, but please allow them to return to room temperature before putting them into the oven.

Italian Stoneware - VIETRI uses stoneware clay that is indigenous to Italy. Stoneware clay is less porous and fired at higher temperatures to make it oven, microwave, freezer and dishwasher safe, and highly resistant to chipping and breaking.

Tuscany: A region in central Italy, Tuscany is known for its landscapes, history, craftsmanship, and influence on culture. The birthplace of the Renaissance, Tuscany is often called the art palace of Italy, and many of the world's greatest works of art come from this region.

Stefano Roselli: Stefano Roselli was born in Italy in 1957. He got his artistic start in 1972 when he began to mold candle and wax. After gaining many years of experience and learning from other master molders, he transitioned to ceramics and began working at one of VIETRI’s dearest factories. Stefano quickly learned the details and nuances of various clays and ceramics. He was soon recognized as an exceptionally innovative and gifted molder, and in 1989, he became a maestro molder himself. Now, he leads the creative design process for many of our collections. A true artist, Stefano’s work is also his passion. He is most at home when he has clay on his hands and his sketches for possible designs scattered across his workspace. During his free time, he sculpts Renaissance and Roman-inspired bas-reliefs for his home.

THE ARTISTRY

Signor Stefano Roselli is the master molder for a ceramics cooperative located in a small town seven miles outside of Florence, and he is the creator behind this collection. VIETRI has worked with Stefano and factory owner Franco Ammannati for close to 15 years, creating and bringing to market dinnerware collections, vases, urns, and other home decor products.
