Gladys and Lawrence Blatchford founded Lawren’s more than 50 years ago on the eastern shore of Mobile Bay. Their business consisted primarily of fine gifts and flowers. In 1963, the excitement of the Aero-Spa and high-tech city of Huntsville brought them to relocate. The cosmopolitan and highly educated population had an exciting new retailer in town offering fine gifts, distinctive tableware, and home accessories. Personalized service, gift-wrap, and delivery added to the success. Jette and Ronald Pidgeon assumed the reins in 1976 upon the retirement of the Blatchfords. The product mix was expanded, as well as the physical space. Today, this specialty retailer presents over 600 current patterns of china from around the world – casual, fine crystal, silver, table linens, gourmet cookware, serving accessories, party papers, candles, candies, and confections. Keeping the future generation of customers in mind, a collection of infant wear, toys, and baby gifts is also part of the product mix. The most recent enhancement has been the opening of a Villa VIETRI – offering the largest in-stock collection of exciting and trendsetting Italian dinnerware and dining accessories in the state.
