Custom Dinnerware for the State of South Carolina designed by VIETRI

Imagine a stylish dinnerware, inspired by South Carolina history and architecture, made by Italian artists expressly for those who love the state!

Palmetto Dinnerware has been specially created for South Carolina, thanks to the South Carolina Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department, Italian ceramic masters and VIETRI, 2006 winner of the ARTS inaugural Award for Best Tabletop Company and a trend-setter in dinnerware across America.

Microwave safe and ovenproof, Palmetto Dinnerware is both embossed and sculpted with images of importance to the history and hearts of South Carolinians and includes the State Seal on the bottom of each piece. The mixing of many different South Carolina symbols across the Palmetto Dinnerware pieces creates a rich tapestry.  The State Palmetto Tree and White Crescent, The State Jessamine Flower, the State House’s columns, even art and furnishings from the Governor’s Mansion inspired the curving lines, embossed medallions and distinctive shapes.  White glaze, hand-applied to high-fired brown clay, gives each piece a sculptural and rich patina.

At the invitation of the South Carolina Parks Recreation and Tourism Department, VIETRI Co-Founder Susan Gravely and Italian artisans toured the State House and Governor’s Mansion to gather nuances and inspiration for a South Carolina dinnerware.  They were clearly enchanted, as seen in the resulting details.

The State Palmetto Tree and White Crescent, symbols of the 1776 Battle of Fort Moultrie, grace the Dinner Plate and three serving pieces.  The Salad Plate is deeply embossed with curving Palmetto fronds. The Jessamine Flower borders the saucer for the Cup, scalloped like sterling silver objects in the Mansion. The columns of the South Carolina Legislative Building are echoed by the deep stripes on Palmetto’s Charger, Cereal Bowl, Pitcher, Vase and Handled Platter.  The laurel branch seen on the State Seal, the head of the gold Mace of the House of Representatives, the Jessamine Flower and the Sword of State are all incorporated in the Salt and Pepper Shakers.  Diamond-shaped medallions, admired upon the Governor’s dining room rug, are embossed upon the Dinner Plate and Small Rectangle Platter.

On March 2, Palmetto Dinnerware will be formally introduced to State legislators and their spouses at the State House by VIETRI Co-Founder Frances Gravely.  Palmetto is available for sale to the public at the State House Gift Shop, 1100 Gervais Street, Columbia, South Carolina 29201.
