Where are VIETRI products made?
VIETRI products are handcrafted in Italy. We use close to thirty independent factories throughout Italy to manufacture our products.
How are VIETRI products made?
VIETRI products are handmade by skilled Italian craftsmen utilizing the same techniques handed down through generations of artisans. Whether you are purchasing our mouth-blown glassware, handpainted ceramics, hand-turned earthenware, or hand-carved wood, VIETRI products have been touched by many skilled hands. This handmade, handcrafted feature is what makes VIETRI products both unique and desirable. Slight variations in size and color, paint smudges, fingerprints, looseness of lids and antiquing irregularities are all characteristics of truly handcrafted one-of-a-kind products.
Are VIETRI products food safe?
VIETRI stands behind all of our products for quality and safety. Independent laboratories regularly test VIETRI's dinnerware collections to assure FDA standards for lead and cadmium. VIETRI is also in compliance with California's Proposition 65. Any item in our line that is not recommended for food use with have an indication as such on the piece and on this website.
What types of products does VIETRI make?
VIETRI offers a full assortment of tabletop and home decor products. In tabletop, we provide full lines of dinnerware, specialized serving and storage pieces, drinkware, table linens and stainless steel and pewter flatware. In home decor, we provide products to decorate the home including pieces for the wall, table and for entertaining. We also have an extensive line of holiday-themed dinnerware and decorative items.
Where can I see the whole VIETRI line?
You can view the entire VIETRI product line on this website but we recommend that you visit a VIETRI retailer to see the product first-hand. Our Villa VIETRI locations carry the largest assortment of our product and are indicated with a special logo on our Store Locator. Use the Store Locator feature on this site to find the retailer nearest you. Our retailers are happy to special order anything that they do not carry.
Is it normal to have slight variations in color and shape within a dinnerware pattern or home accessory piece?
Every piece of VIETRI product is an individual work of art! Shapes vary somewhat because the pieces are hand formed. Artwork may differ slightly because each piece is hand painted or hand finished. It is this individual "nature of goods" that makes VIETRI so unique. Our products are not stamped out by machines, they are made by artisans highly skilled in their craft.
When I am in Italy can I tour the VIETRI factories?
The factories we work with are not VIETRI-owned factories. They are independent, generally family-owned factories that manufacture to our specifications. In many cases, these factories are very small, and are not capable of handling tours.
Where are VIETRI products sold?
VIETRI products are sold exclusively through the finest independent specialty gift and gourmet stores, department stores, catalogs, e-commerce sites and www.vietri.com.

A manner of sculpturing where the designs or figures project only slightly from the background.
An earthenware or porcelain vessel that has been fired once but not glazed.
Objects made of clays that are processed through firing or baking. Can include pottery, earthenware, tile, porcelain, stoneware, etc.
Small lines that may appear in glaze. Generally due to the expansion and contraction of the ceramic caused by extreme changes in temperature.
A decorative paper art technique using carefully cut figurative paper illustrations. The cut pieces are then pasted with varnish or lacquer onto a surface.
Any glass item used for drinking.
Pottery made from a porous clay that is fired at relatively low temperatures. Faience, delft, and majolica are examples of earthenware.
Table utensils, as in knives, forks, and spoons.
The application of gold leaf to the surface of an object for decorative purposes.
Gold decoration applied to the surface of cold glass and then fired a second time at a low temperature. After firing, the ornamentation must be burnished to create a shine.
The process of applying glaze to ceramics so that they are sealed with a hard gloss-like finish and are impermeable to liquid absorption.
Thinly applied overglazes that serve a decorative purpose by creating an iridescent appearance. These lustres cause a metallic film to adhere to the ceramic surface that becomes iridescent when burnished.
A tin-glazed earthenware produced from the 15th century at such Italian centers as Faenza, Deruta, Urbino, Orvieto, Gubbio, Florence, and Savona. Tin-glazed earthenware was first introduced into Italy from Spain by way of the island of Majorca, or Maiolica, where it derived the name by which it was known in Italy. The tin glaze, when fired, gives a lustrous and colorful surface. It is this glaze, the tremendous variety of whimsical forms, and the intense colors of majolica that make this ceramic stand apart from other ceramic wares.
